Photo Shoot - Tom Mah School of Karate

Sensei Tom Mah is a longtime fixture in the martial arts community of the Okanagan, with over 40 years of experience as an instructor of Shito Ryu and Okinawan Weapons, amongst other disciplines. The staying power of his dojo is reflective of the sense of community he builds through his instruction, ensuring that his students develop not only physically but also with compassion and self-discipline.

As a student of his many years ago I continue to hold Sensei Mah in the highest regard. His patience and skill continue to impress, as he was gracious enough to volunteer his time and dojo for a recent photo shoot allowing me to experiment with some lighting and exposure techniques. The Okanagan, and also his pupils, are very lucky to have as a teacher and leader someone of Tom Mah’s lasting patience, skill, and determination. I wish him and his dojo the best of fortunes in 2021, and hope that as we return to a normal pattern of life that his students are able to return to their regular classes.
